Description

Rumination is a style of coping with life stressors and negative mood states that features a very strong internal orientation, a process of engaging in self-focused attention on one’s negative feelings and perceptions at the expense of taking effective action. More concretely, rumination as a coping style means that when the going gets tough, the tough get thinking… and thinking, and analyzing, and anticipating, and worrying. It’s the basis for what many understandably call an “analysis paralysis.” Rumination is a principal catalyst for passivity – the virtual opposite of a proactive approach to addressing life challenges - and thus must be considered a primary target of intervention, hypnotic or otherwise. In this short webinar, we’ll explore the dynamics of ruminative coping and highlight the role hypnosis can play in encouraging meaningful and timely action.

Presenter’s Bio: About Michael D. Yapko, Ph.D

Michael D. Yapko, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist residing near San Diego, California.  He is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking work in applying clinical hypnosis in outcome-focused psychotherapy, especially in the active treatment of depression. His highly practical YouTube lecture on “How to Recover from Depression” has now been viewed nearly 5 million times.

Dr. Yapko is the author of 16 books including Process-Oriented Hypnosis, Trancework (5th edition), Treating Depression with Hypnosis, as well as his popular general audience books Depression is Contagious and Breaking the Patterns of Depression.  His works have been translated into 10 languages. He is a five-time recipient of the Arthur Shapiro Award for the “Best Book on Hypnosis” from the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis.  He is also the Chief Content Advisor for the popular digital hypnotherapy mental health app called MindsetHealth. More information about Dr. Yapko’s work is available on his website: www.yapko.com.

On the personal side, Dr. Yapko is happily married to his wife, Diane, a pediatric speech-language pathologist.  Together, they enjoy hiking in the Great Outdoors in their spare time.
