Track Definitions: Abstract & Symposium Presentations

Topics are welcome in any of these areas: 

Trauma

Abstracts submitted for this track should focus on clinically defined traumatized or post-traumatized patients and how hypnosis can aid in their recovery.

Veteran-Related

Abstracts submitted for this track should focus on hypnotic techniques that have been found to be helpful for this special population.

Pain Management

Abstracts submitted for this track should highlight how hypnosis can be used to mitigate the most common types of pain: acute, chronic, or neuropathic.   

Dental, Medical, & Habit Application

Abstracts submitted for this track should focus on how hypnosis can put patients in a relaxed state to make them comfortable for routine medical and dental procedures as well as relief from behaviors related to anxiety that prompt unhealthy habits.

Integration of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy

Abstracts submitted for this track should focus on using hypnotherapy, which is a modern and holistic approach to combining classical therapy with modern hypnosis.

Metaphysical & Spirituality

Abstracts submitted for this track should focus on constructs that address non-ordinary experiences that are of the metaphysical and spiritual world.

Advanced workshop sessions will be scheduled in 90 minutes or 3-hour time slots.  There will be four concurrent sessions scheduled for each time slot.

Faculty Eligibility

As part of the Abstract Submission process, submitters will be required to attest to provide evidence of their eligibility to present at ASMW.  Here are the eligibility requirements:

  • Be a Full ASCH Member in good standing OR
  • Hold a graduate degree in a medical, dental, or mental health care field from a regionally accredited university AND
  • Licensed or certified to practice as a medical, dental, or mental health care professional in the state in which you practice

About Symposium Presentations

ASCH will showcase four (4) symposiums to ASMW providing clinicians the opportunity to share ideas, ways of working, research, and philosophical approaches.  Topics submitted for consideration should be in keeping with the ASMW theme and fit into one of the six content tracks.

No more than four papers will be selected for a symposium session; presentations will be limited to 18 minutes with a few minutes allowed for questions.  Acceptance to present at ASMW is an opportunity to build your Curriculum Vitae or have a presentation used as a start for an article.

Submission requirements and directions:

  • Complete the online Symposium application by Monday, September 12, 2022.
  • Abstracts should be no more than 250 words.
  • The topic must fit into one of the six content tracks.
  • Submissions are required to include evidence of three-four publication or citation references within the last ten years.

An ASCH member can organize a symposium and submit four abstracts together.

The ASMW Planning Committee will group together accepted papers by topic/track in making their final determination of acceptance and placement.

Presenter Eligibility

Individuals submitting abstracts for symposium consideration must meet the following criteria:

Be an ASCH member at the Full, Associate, or Resident/Intern level or meet the criteria for ASCH membership in these two categories:

  • Degree
    • Hold a graduate degree in a medical, dental, or mental health care field from a regionally accredited university OR
    • Be Full-time residents or interns participating in a recognized residency or internship program in a medical or mental health care field.
  • License
    • Be licensed or certified to practice as a medical, dental, or mental health care professional in the state in which you practice OR
    • are practicing under a licensed professional's supervision for hours towards licensure.
