In response to the suggestions made by our members on the recent ASCH Education Survey, the ASCH Education Committee has developed an outstanding advanced workshop in Puerto Rico at the Caribe Hilton, April 20 - 23, 2017. This workshop will combine both continuing education and plenty of time for recreation in this tropical destination.

Our distinguished faculty will be Dr. Mark Weisberg, PhD, ABPP, Clinical Health Psychologist, who will present Mind-Body Innovations: New Developments and Clinical Applications in Hypnosis (detailed course outline to follow). In beautiful Puerto Rico, participants will learn about topics rated by workshop attendees as being of most current interest. Topics include: how to approach hypnosis from a mind-body medicine orientation, polyvagal considerations in hypnosis, psychoneuroimmunology, treating chronic and acute pain, digestive disorders (IBS, inflammatory bowel diseases), preparation for surgery and procedures, autoimmune conditions. Then, how to apply hypnosis effectively in these different conditions.

Note: didactic material will be interwoven with experiential exercises and demonstrations. Bring your most difficult cases for us to discuss, suggest helpful interventions, and apply principles and hypnotic techniques from this workshop

8:30 am – 10 am Updates from Psychoneuroimmunology: Polyvagal models, epigenetics, brain structure and how this informs hypnotic interventions
10 am – 10:15 am   Break
10:15 am – 11 am   Clinician variables: what are the factors in the clinician that maximally stimulate self-healing capacities and make your hypnosis more effective
11 am – 12:15 pm   Treating Chronic and Acute Pain: “Updates from the Trenches”. Treating intractable pain, effects of the opioid crises and related developments on new
hypnotic techniques for intervening in pain conditions. How to use hypnosis to increase the effectiveness of medications.

8 am – 10 am   Direct and indirect hypnotic techniques for reducing pain and suffering in: migraine and tension headache, TMD and craniofacial pain, widespread
bodily pain, rebound pain.

Mark B. Weisberg, Ph.D., ABPP is a Board-Certified Clinical Health Psychologist in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is Adjunct Community Faculty, Academic Health Center, University of Minnesota. Dr. Weisberg is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Academy of Clinical Health Psychology. He has been involved in clinical practice, writing, and consultation in integrative mind-body medicine for over 25 years, and teaches on related topics nationally and internationally.

He is a clinician and co-owner of the Minnesota Head and Neck Pain Clinic, where he consults in the treatment of a wide variety of adults and adolescents with back pain, headache, temporomandibular disorders, autoimmune syndromes, and other widespread pain conditions.

Dr. Weisberg is a Fellow and Approved Consultant of ASCH, and has served on the Executive Committee as Secretary, Member at Large, and Vice President. He is also Past President of the Minnesota Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

Dr. Weisberg is the co-author of Trust Your Gut: Get Lasting Healing from IBS and Other Chronic Digestive Problems Without Drugs (Conari Press, 2013), a consumer book on integrative treatment of digestive disorders. He also conducts a private psychotherapy and consultation practice in Minneapolis.
